WOOD TYPES
LASU tables are available in a number of sizes and come in beech or oak:
// Beech wood: best known and most commonly used deciduous trees. Beech wood is light to pinkish in colour and features texture that is not very distinctive. The wood is hard, relatively strong, less elastic, homogeneous and dense.
// Oak: one of the most sought after materials for centuries. Its core is relatively wide, evenly coloured, brownish with grey or yellowish tinges. The wood is strong, hard and very durable. It is the most resilient material against fluctuations of wet and dry conditions.
WOOD FINISH
The standard surface finish for beech and oak is either lacquered (water based varnish, UV protective, easy to clean and maintain) or oiled (matt protective layer that does not peel or crack and allows wood to breathe; minor damages can be sanded and re-oiled with this surface treatment; oil also brings out the natural colour of the wood).
Stained wood finish*: staining is applied by either immersion or spraying and then finished with a layer of transparent lacquer. This finish allows for the individual wood characteristics to be visible. Staining does not affect the wood structure.
* All stain colours are the same price - please add your preferred colour choice in the notes box at checkout. Samples are available at our showroom or close up images can be sent electronically. Please contact us for more information.
TABLE TOP OPTIONS
// The solid wood table top is constructed by gluing together lengths of wood. It is important to note that each individual length of wood may have a different reaction to finishing materials, resulting in colour variations. Due to the natural reactions to its environment, a dimensional tolerance of ± 3 mm is acceptable for solid wood table tops. In some cases, there may be a sag in longer tops, which is addressed with an underside reinforcement. Additionally, the shorter sides of the table have a two-part apron to prevent gaps and account for potential widthways expansion or contraction over time.
// Veneer top + solid wood edge table top is constructed from chipboard veneered from both sides and a solid wood edge from beech or oak along the edge, improving strength and durability. Veneer maximises the use of each log and is an environmentally friendly choice.
